Our Reintegration Policy
The Phoenix School
At the Phoenix School, our mission is to support pupils in overcoming barriers to learning and to prepare them for a successful return to mainstream education. Many children arrive with challenges in behaviour, attendance, or participation, and our role is to provide a structured, supportive pathway back to mainstream settings. This policy outlines how the Phoenix School guides pupils through behaviour support, attendance improvement, participation in learning, and the reintegration process.
Behaviour Support
Positive behaviour is central to reintegration. At the Phoenix School, each pupil has an Individual Behaviour Plan (IBP) which identifies specific, achievable targets. Staff use consistent routines and clear expectations to create a safe and structured environment. Mentoring sessions and restorative conversations help pupils reflect on their actions, understand the impact of their behaviour, and develop practical strategies for self-regulation. Achievements are celebrated and progress is monitored regularly, building confidence and resilience. By addressing behaviour in a supportive way, pupils gain the skills required to meet mainstream expectations.
Attendance Strategies
Improving attendance is a key focus for all pupils. The Phoenix School works closely with families, carers, and external agencies to identify barriers to regular attendance. Tailored strategies may include support with morning routines, flexible start times, or transport assistance. Attendance is monitored daily, and improvements are acknowledged and rewarded to encourage consistency. Good attendance helps pupils establish routines, build resilience, and prepare for the demands of mainstream schooling.
Participation and Engagement
Active participation in both learning and enrichment activities is essential for reintegration. Pupils are encouraged to take part fully in lessons, group work, and wider opportunities such as sports, creative projects, and outdoor learning. These experiences develop teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Where possible, joint activities with mainstream schools are arranged, providing pupils with gradual exposure to mainstream environments. Participation builds confidence, strengthens relationships, and helps pupils feel prepared for a successful transition.
Reintegration Planning
Reintegration is a carefully planned process, tailored to the individual needs of each pupil. Staff at the Phoenix School work in partnership with mainstream schools to design a personalised reintegration plan. This plan sets clear goals for behaviour, attendance, and participation, and outlines gradual steps such as short visits, attending selected lessons, or part-time timetables. Regular reviews ensure progress is tracked and adjustments are made where needed. Staff from both schools maintain open communication, ensuring pupils and families feel supported throughout.
Ethos
The Phoenix School is committed to giving every pupil the best possible chance of thriving in a mainstream setting. By focusing on behaviour, attendance, and participation in a structured and supportive way, pupils are equipped with the skills and confidence they need to succeed. Reintegration is not simply about returning to mainstream education, but about ensuring pupils are prepared, resilient, and able to sustain progress in the long term.
